Introduces QC methods. The course will begin with basic descriptive statistics and some standard graphical tools such as histograms, Pareto charts and scatter diagrams. The concept of process capability and the use of common control charts. Procedures for inspection sampling plans.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Address technical problems using the 5-step method.
Prepare and interpret histograms and Pareto charts from data.
Calculate means, medians, ranges and standard deviations.
Calculate means using grouped data and coded grouped data techniques.
Perform normal probability calculations such as projected yield and reject rates using a statistical calculator or a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Understand some implications of data distribution shapes.
Know when to use formulae for samples and for populations of data.
Perform statistical calculations and prepare graphical presentations using Excel.
Perform process capability calculations.
Lead groups toward root cause analysis through the use of Cause and Effect diagrams.
Prepare and interpret scatter plots from paired data sets using linear regression.
Prepare elementary X-bar - R control charts and calculate control limits.
Understand basic concepts which lead to the Central Limit Theorem.
Understand the concepts of Producer's and Consumer's risk.
Interpret Operating Characteristic graphs associated with Acceptance Sampling plans.
Work in team situations to analyze data generated by inspection and process control operations.
