This on-line course offers students the opportunity to develop their leadership knowledge and skills within the context of specialty nursing. Leadership is explored from multiple perspectives with an emphasis on contemporary theories and frameworks. Topics that are examined include followership, contextual influences, power, navigating change and transitions, and teambuilding. Students engage in a work related leadership project to apply leadership knowledge and skills to their practice.

As licensed health care practitioners, all learners will practice in accordance with professional standards of practice throughout the course. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

Demonstrate knowledge of the complementary roles between leaders, followers, and managers.
Analyze contextual influences on leadership.
Identify personsal leadership strengths.
Articulate personal sources of power related to nursing.
Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders in the context of a leadership project.
Apply elevant change and transition strategies to a leadership project.
Critically reflect on teambuilding abilities.
Articulate ethical aspects of leadership.
Critically reflect on leadership development.
