As licensed health care practitioners, all learners will practice in accordance with professional standards of practice throughout the course. Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Describe the pathophysiology, assessment and symptom management of the three most common complex health challenges for a renal client: cardiovascular complications, diabetes and acute renal failure.
Perform a comprehensive assessment for a renal client with complex health challenges building on your own assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
Utilize a family-centered care approach to address social support issues for renal clients.
Analyze a renal client through the lens of the renal transplantation process, including donor and recipient evaluation, transplant surgery, immunosuppression, and associated management of complications such as rejection and infection.
Utilize an ethical framework in exploring end of life decision-making for clients and their families.
