This course combines theory with practice, using a variety of ultrasonic testing equipment to inspect test samples. Topics include the generation of ultrasonic waves, instrumentation, frequency, velocity, wavelength, attenuation, calibration, reference standards, longitudinal, transverse and surface waves, reflection, Snell's Law, sensitivity and resolution. This course meets the requirements of CGSB Standard 48.9712-2006 (Table 1). Course requires that students can use a calculator, manipulate formulae, apply basic trigonometry (sine, cosine, tan, arcsine, arccosine, arc tan) and use exponential functions.
