Course Details

A build-up from the fundamentals covered in Heating Systems 1. In-depth coverage extends to strategies encompassing temperature mixing and outdoor reset controls, distribution piping in multiple-zone systems, different types of heat emitters in a hydronic heating system, circuit layout design in radiant floor heating. An overview on hydronic snowmelting design, and integrating solar thermal in hydronic heating will be included.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the elements of controls systems.
  • Explain the types of control action.
  • Explain the types of valve flow characteristics.
  • Identify the control strategies commonly adopted in the hydronic industry.
  • Differentiate the temperature mixing strategies commonly used in hydronic heating design.
  • Design a distribution piping strategy for a multiple zoned system.
  • Layout floor tubing design for a radiant floor heating system to industry practices.
  • Design a full hydronic heating system utilizing different types of heat emitters together.
  • Design hydronic snowmelting applications based on engineering calculations.
  • Analyze hydronic heating systems integrating solar thermal energy.
