Course Details

A build-up from the fundamentals covered in Air Conditioning Systems 1. In-depth coverage extends to selection and applications encompassing refrigeration/cooling systems and equipment, automatic controls in HVAC systems, noise and vibration control in air distribution and cooling equipment. An overview on energy utilization and conversation based on heat recovery systems will be included.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the types of compressors, condensers, evaporators, and flow control devices.
  • Select packaged refrigeration equipment.
  • Calculate thermal energy conservation values as specified in energy codes.
  • Describe energy recovery equipment used in air-conditioning.
  • Determine the efficiency, COP, and EER of energy conversion equipment.
  • Identify and describe the elements of control systems in HVAC systems.
  • Explain the types of control action.
  • Describe how electric, electronic, DDC controls function.
  • Explain the types of damper arrangements.
  • Understand noise criteria and sources of vibrations in air handling/cooling equipment.
  • Select methods to reduce noise and vibration levels for air-conditioning equipment.
