In Automation, Control, and Instrumentation 2 emphasis is on control, control systems, and control equipment. This will include the fundamentals of automatic control, on/off controls, sequential controls, PID controls, and their various types. Also included will be sensors, transmitters, controlling elements, and manipulator elements: pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic. Finally the features for the automatic control equipment and safety devices for engines and boilers will be studied.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Describe the function of the major elements of different control systems.
Describe three types of control actions.
Draw a multi-loop control system.
Tune a PID controller and adjust control loop performance.
Describe the operating principle of pneumatic transducers and controllers.
Describe a pneumatic supply system and its elements.
Sketch and describe valve positioners for pneumatic actuators.
Sketch and describe a medium and slow speed diesel engine control system.
Sketch and describe a ship’s steam plant automatic control system.
Describe the operating principle of the integrated monitoring and alarm system.
