This course teaches orderly abandonment of a vessel in an emergency situation; clearing the vessel; proper and effective use of equipment; and coordinating survival activities during rescue operation. The course is designed for certificated Officers and for certificated ratings. Such personnel are required to complete a comprehensive MED training program of which Survival Craft is one component.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Describe types of emergency situations.
Describe actions to be taken during situations.
Demonstrate use of survival equipment.
Describe methods of helicopter rescue.
Describe types of survival craft and rescue boats.
Describe launching arrangements for survival craft.
Describe/demonstrate the operation of the lifeboat engine and accessories.
Explain evacuation procedures for survival craft.
Describe signalling equipment and pyrotechnics.
Describe actions to be taken when aboard a survival crafts.
Conduct drills in launching and recovering of boats.
Explain launching and handling of survival craft in rough weather.
Explain the use of radio equipment.
Carry out the duties of a survival craft crew member/PIC.
