Media Communications Part-time Studies Course

School of Business + Media

To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. All PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.

Course Details

Students collect their best work into a targeted interactive portfolio. During the duration of this course, students may start new projects or refine existing ones in specific disciplines to further develop their research, management, design and programming skills in a self-directed format. A personal brand and self-promotional materials will be defined by each student to reflect their qualities, values and professional accomplishments. Students present their portfolios at the end of the course. Students are be assessed by a combination of individual projects and a group peer critique.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Produce an industry-quality digital portfolio and exhibits that demonstrates creative, development and professional skills under multiple disciplines.
  • Plan and implement search engine optimization and metadata for portfolio site and professional social media communications.
  • Research, write, report, document, store and package information in a variety of formats.
  • Integrate principles of visual design and self-promotion into the creation and evaluation of one's own work and the assessment of the work of peers.
  • Use a portfolio as a tool for displaying, communicating, promoting and marketing purposes.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback on portfolio work.
  • Use current applications of the Adobe Cloud Creative Suite and current new media design tools.
  • Recognize differences between freelancing and employment showcase digital portfolios.
