Course Details

The purpose of the course is to provide the learner with a basic knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings. Students will learn to effectively communicate by reading and creating sketches of an object in several views. Using a self-paced approach, students will complete step by step assignments from the textbook.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Sketch simple objects using orthographic projection.
  • Interpret the abbreviations, linetypes and symbols used in engineering drawings.
  • Read and interpret tolerances and allowances on engineering drawings.
  • Describe the purpose of the Title and Revision Blocks.
  • Read dimensions to determine the size and positions of objects and features.
  • Identify Imperial and SI (Metric) units.
  • Describe the standard scales used for engineering drawings.
