This course builds upon the theoretical aspects covered in FSCT 7840 (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Core Education ? Theoretical Aspects) and due to its clinical component is restricted to registered nurses or other physicians within the program. This course provides clinical practice for forensic health assessments, forensic evidence collection, chain-of-custody, documentation and evaluation for victims of sexual assault (adult and adolescent, female and male). The course will include 3 hours of instruction on the performance of vaginal speculum examinations for the purposes of recognition of normal female genitalia versus abnormal findings. It will also include recognition of normal male genitalia versus abnormal findings. Please note: only vaginal speculum examinations will be conducted in the clinical setting. The student will be placed in a clinical setting for 12 hours to perform clinical functions of vaginal speculum examinations under the direct supervision of a physician or registered nurse with delegated transfer of function for vaginal speculum examinations.
