Provides participants with an understanding of the new role that U.S. Congress has defined for food importers under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 (FSMA). The most important regulation for U.S. food importers is the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs regulation (FSVP rule) that FDA published on November 27, 2015. We will focus on explaining the requirements of the FSVP rule, and how you, as Canadian suppliers, can assist your customers or U.S. consignee in complying with the requirements. Attendees will receive a certificate from the FSPCA upon completion of the training (the certificate fee is included in the course tuition).

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Identify who is responsible for food safety,
Identify FSMA's new rules that pertain to you and your U.S. customers,
Articulate the key principles of the FSVP rule,
Define FSVP importer and FSVP qualified individual,
Determine which entity will be the FSVP importer,
Determine if any modified requirements apply to you,
Document your hazard analysis,
Identify key requirements for supplier approval program, verification activities, and re-evaluation of foreign suppliers,
Identify records to document for FSVP compliance, and
Describe the requirements for record maintenance.
