Through a review of the urban street classification system, you will determine the basic requirements of a road right-of-way and its relationship to other utilities. Vertical and horizontal design elements and the use of cross-sections to correlate these design controls will be illustrated as the basis of geometric design. We will discuss the concepts of road drainage, intersection design, sidewalk layout, and drawing preparation. You will prepare a design and the associated drawings of a typical urban road taking into consideration the extent of field data and legal survey information required, the TAC design standard, economics, drivers and pedestrian safety, and good engineering practice.
