Course Details

​In this course, students learn to install, configure, manage, and support an Active Directory (AD) network infrastructure using the Microsoft server 2016 platform. Course topics include upgrading and migrating Windows Servers, Domain Controllers, Group Policy objects, Certificate Services, Federation Services, Web Application Proxy, and Active Directory Rights Management Services. Practical lab exercises support the theory presented in class.

  1. No class on Monday, February 21st (Family Day). This course will be delivered using a HYBRID MODEL which will incorporate both in-person and online learning. Students will attend in-person, on campus in building SE1 room 208, on January 10th, January 12th, February 7th, February 9th, March 2nd, March 23rd, March 28th, March 30th, and April 4th. The remaining lessons will be delivered live, online, through the Learning Hub. When working online, students will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with at least 8GB of RAM, a microphone, speakers, and an internet connection with speeds of 10Mbps or greater. (Please note: Shaw and Telus internet connections are typically 100Mbps or greater). This course is part of the Network Administrator Technician - Associate Certificate and can also be taken as a stand-alone course. Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Install and configure Microsoft Active Directory enabled servers (domain controllers)
  • Describe the functions an Active Directory environment provides
  • Manage Active Directory users and computers
  • Optimize Active Directory for an enterprise environment
  • Implement authentication services with an Active Directory environment
  • Create and manage Active Directory groups and organizational units (OUs)
  • Create and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
  • Configure Group Policy processing, settings, and preferences
  • Install and configure Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS)
  • Install and configure Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS)
  • Implement Web Application Proxy (WAP)
  • Install and configure Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS)
