To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. Spring and Summer PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.
Sustainable business leaders must be self-reflective, comfortable with uncertainty, open, flexible, and adaptable. As champions for business models and practices that promote social equity and respect planetary boundaries, sustainable business leaders must understand how worldviews shape the actions of business, government, and citizens. In this course, students examine social systems and reflect on the foundational values and skills necessary to navigate these systems and advocate for change.
Reserved for students registered in the Sustainable Business Leadership or the BBA program. Please email email@example.com for departmental approval. If you are not enrolled in either of these programs at BCIT and are seeking special permission to register, please contact Program Head Tessa Jordan at Tessa_Jordan@BCIT.ca. 3. Course includes a combination of synchronous and asynchronous online learning each week.
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
Reflect on the values of sustainable business leaders and articulate a personal values statement.
Identify the interpersonal skills of a sustainable business leader that build resilience in the face of uncertainty.
Describe the impact of ideology on the actions of business, government, and citizens.
Identify ambiguity, controversy, and complexity of worldviews and assess their impacts on business, society, and nature.
Compare traditional and contemporary approaches to business, the environment, and citizenship.
Evaluate credibility, context, evidence, and soundness of reasoning related to course themes.
Produce essays and oral presentations that evaluate aspects of the course material.
Produce persuasive written documents and oral arguments in class discussion that demonstrate skills in critical thinking, reading, and writing.
