Course Details
This course introduces students to sustainable business strategy, specifically how sustainability can be a strategic differentiator that can lead to improved environmental, social, and financial performance. The course covers best practices for purpose-driven organizations with an emphasis on strategic planning and developing the business case for sustainability. Students explore how business can drive systems-level change by operating within planetary boundaries and promoting social equity. Students learn how to communicate the competitive advantage of being a purpose-driven organization to influence management decision and stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Distinguish between sustainability as operational efficiency and a differentiating strategy.
Build a business case for a sustainability strategy for an organization.
Evaluate how different busienss models contribute to social equity, respect planetary boundaries and ensure economic viability.
Identify key stakeholders and explain the importance of working with government, civil society and the non-profit sector to support sustainable business practices.
Explain the Sustainable Development Goals and how they can be used as a strategic tool for business.
Communicate the competitive advantage of sustainability intitiatives to diverse stakeholders.
Distinguish between sustainability as operational efficiency and a differentiating strategy.
Define objectives, goals and tactics and distinguish them from strategy.
