The goals of this course are to introduce students to basic electricity, simple circuit analysis, electrical safety, operation principles, and basic building blocks of biomedical instrumentation. Some biomedical devices relating to Cardiology Technology practice are discussed.
This online Learning Hub (D2L) course is for students in the Cardiology Diploma program. Students are responsible for ensuring prerequisite courses are completed PRIOR to registration. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Explain the following entities: voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, and inductance.
Use Ohm’s Law to analyze simple resistive electrical circuits.
Distinguish between microshock and macroshock.
State methods and precautions to minimize electrical shock hazards.
Identify the main components and the functions of typical digital medical equipment.
Identify the functional building blocks and describe the principles of operation of selected biomedical devices.
Understand simple troubleshooting concepts on biomedical equipment.
