Course Details

Grow your potential for employment in communications, media relations, and the news media. Explore how to write an engaging blog and develop the skills and confidence to work in any media newsroom. You’ll get much writing practice in this course and become well-grounded in the principles of journalism. Skills learned dovetail with BCST1148 'Interviewing for the Media' and, combined, offer the opportunity to vigorously stimulate your communication skill set.



This course was retired after the Fall 2018 term and is no longer offered through BCIT Part-time Studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Define elements of effective media writing.
  • Apply effective writing elements to all media writing formats, such as news, reviews, and commentaries.
  • Increase your writing speed.
  • Organize information in a logical fashion for presentation to a target audience.
  • Construct a newscast and its components.
  • Adapt online media content for traditional broadcast and vice versa.
  • Create and maintain a blog.
