Course Details

Effective business decisions begin with a sound understanding of the analytical techniques and methods used to make sense of the data underlying the business. This course increases students’ expertise in the mathematical and quantitative analysis methods used to perform Business Analytics in a real-world setting. Students will gain increased knowledge of quantitative methods for decision making, including forecasting, hypothesis testing, choice models, optimization, regression modelling, and break-even analysis, and will learn to use these tools effectively to solve complex analytical problems. Students will perform choice of tools, selection and manipulation of data, and presentation of complete solutions in a quantitative analysis project setting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Use data dispersion and confidence interval analysis to communicate the relevance of data.
  • Support business decisions using data driven hypotheses testing results.
  • Analyze seasonal and time series trends in data to identify the best course of action.
  • Select and defend the choice of analytical methodology to solve business problems.
  • Communicate results using appropriate tools and applications.
  • Use multiple analytical and visual methodologies to explore and analyze data.
  • Mine data for significant patterns which determine a course of action.
  • Forecast system behaviour by using time-series analytics and prediction tools.
  • Generate and communicate Key Performance Indicators and data metrics.
