This includes an understanding of how market requirements drive the resources and processes of an organization. Topics include: Understanding concepts that require a combination of elements and higher thinking within the entire CPIM body of knowledge; Knowing the relationship of existing and emerging processes and technologies to operations and supply chain functions; Understanding various business environments; Knowing how business strategies are developed and how operation strategies are implemented.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Explain how resources can be aligned with strategic plans.
Understand the different competitive advantages a firm can choose to pursue.
Respect the importance of customer requirements in product design and development.
Explain the strategic relationships among members of a supply chain.
Understand manufacturing strategies and how a firm decides on what is applicable to their business.
Understand basic cost management methods and their benefits.
Explain project implementation issues, including project planning and control and project implementation phases.
List typical problems that can occur during implementation projects.
Establish applicable measures to determine success.
Explain the process of organizational change.
Combine other studies and readings to be prepared to write the CPIM Computer Based Exam for Strategic Management of Resources.
