This is the primary source for BCIT-related COVID-19 information.
BCIT’s campuses and services are open and fully operational and will remain so unless directed to close by a future public health order and posted on our BCIT Breaking News page.
At BCIT, the safety of our students, faculty and staff, and the wider community is our first priority. Throughout the pandemic, BCIT has worked closely with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training to follow guidelines developed for post-secondary institutions across the province. The guidelines were designed in consultation with experts from BC’s post-secondary sector, the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, regional health authorities, and the BC Centre for Disease Control. BCIT is now guided by our Communicable Disease Prevention Plan [PDF], our Pandemic Scenario Response Plan [PDF], and any relevant workplace safety legislation.

Coming to campus?
- Do you have COVID-19 symptoms? Please stay home if you are feeling unwell. The BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool is available to assess symptoms and determine if further assessment or testing is needed.
- Have you tested positive for COVID-19? Follow BCCDC guidelines on isolation.
- Have you travelled internationally in the last 14 days? Please be aware of any federal requirements following international travel.
- Have you been advised to self-isolate? Please do not come to campus.
- If you start to feel unwell while on campus, please return home and contact 811 for health advice if needed.
Masks are now optional for people in all indoor public settings, including all indoor spaces at BCIT, and individuals may choose to wear them as a personal choice. We expect everyone in the BCIT community to respect each other’s choices and comfort levels. No proof of vaccination is required to access on campus spaces.
COVID-19 prevention tips
Precautionary measures to avoid transmission of COVID-19 are similar to measures to prevent cold and flu. For specific questions related to self-isolation or COVID-19 please call 8-1-1 or visit the BCCDC website. Ensure you are also complying with any province-wide restrictions set out by the Public Health Officer to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Stay home when you are ill and avoid close contact with others. You may decide to use a Rapid Antigen Test (see FAQ below) to assess if you have COVID-19 but even if the test result is negative, you should stay home if you have symptoms.
- Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. If a sink is not available, 60-90% alcohol-based hand rubs (hand sanitizer) can be used if your hands are not visibly soiled. If they are visibly soiled, you can use an alcohol-based disposable hand wipe to remove the dirt and then use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Do not touch your face/eyes/mouth with unwashed hands. When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or the crease of your elbow, and then wash your hands.
FAQs
Over the course of the pandemic, we have provided responses to frequently asked questions (FAQs) for which we have firm answers and are relevant in the current stage of the pandemic. As the pandemic has evolved, so has our approach to FAQs. The majority of COVID-19 specific questions are answered by the BCCDC. If there is BCIT-specific information, we will continue to update our community through our regular communication channels and provide, when necessary, updates on our breaking news page.
