Staff parking

Staff parking: In light of recent events surrounding the COVID-19 response, Facilities Services is, effective March 20, 2020 and until further notice, allowing BCIT staff with current valid parking permits to park in any staff lot at BCIT, Burnaby campus, without repercussion. Additionally, any tickets issued as of March 16, 2020 will be voided.

This change helps those BCIT staff still onsite who need to be mobile and close to different parts of the campus. There is currently plenty of capacity in staff parking lots due to BCIT’s transition to online learning delivery and employees working from home.

BCIT staff parking is treated as a taxable benefit, according to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The taxable benefit varies for each campus and staff designation. The amount of the benefit is based on the fair market value of the parking, minus any payments made by the staff member for parking.

Staff parking at BCIT is optional and those who participate have the ability to opt out any time during the year. Once a staff member has opted out, a parking permit can be repurchased on one of the four dates: January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1. The actual purchase date may occur within three days before or after the start of the month.

Staff parking is designated by lot. Your paid parking allows you to park in your designated staff lot or any student lot. If you park in another staff lot, you will be ticketed.
