Pacific Spirit Project Workshop

Pacific Spirit Project

Two day workshop

Over the course of a two day workshop, faculty explore the challenges and opportunities of incorporating sustainability within their curriculum. Highlights of the workshop include an experiential, nature walk around Deer Lake, an opportunity to meet and share ideas with colleagues, and group activities to foster insights about how students learn and what evidence could be assessed to determine whether a BCIT education empowers students to contribute to a sustainable future.

Follow-up meeting

Pacific Spirit Project participants agree to reconvene in August to share their reflections on how they will or plan to proceed with incorporating sustainability in their curriculum. Expectations for what will be shared were identified as follows: synopsis (consisting of one or two paragraphs)  of how the course is changed to incorporate sustainability.  This can be reflected in changes in assignment(s), learning outcomes, reading assignment, etc.

Outcomes from the most recent workshop

In the 2012 workshop, participants addressed a number of challenges and opportunities as well as brainstormed about what evidence would demonstrate that students had learned about sustainability and were empowered to become effective leaders in their communities and practitioners within their fields.

The following documents capture the output of the workshop and can be used to inform the next phase of the project.
