The course outline is a statement of educational intent and direction, providing BCIT students with clear, concise, accurate and readily available information related to course content and administration. BCIT course outlines are governed by Policy 5403 and the creation of course outlines is subject to the procedure described in 5403-PR1.

Course Learning Outcomes/Competencies

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe safe working practices in welding shop.
  • Use hand, power, layout and describe hoisting, rigging and material handling.
  • Describe Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC) and Gouging processes ((OFG).
  • Perform OFC and OFG equipment and its operation.
  • Describe fusion and braze welding, its processes and operations.
  • Describe shielded metal arc welding (SWAW) and use its process on low carbon steel plate and pipe.
  • Use Electric arc cutting and gouging processes and its equipment.
  • Describe and use the GMAW, GMAW-P, FCAW, and MCAW processes.
  • Describe mechanical and physical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Perform basic drafting, interpret drawings, and fabricate weldments.
  • Describe submerged arc welding select operating parameters for its process.
