The course outline is a statement of educational intent and direction, providing BCIT students with clear, concise, accurate and readily available information related to course content and administration. BCIT course outlines are governed by Policy 5403 and the creation of course outlines is subject to the procedure described in 5403-PR1.

Course Learning Outcomes/Competencies

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

  • Describe the development of a airfield maintenance program based upon the requirements of TP 312E- Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Describe the maintenance tasks and schedules required to maintain the visual aid system.
  • Describe how to plan and schedule maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
  • Describe how to maintain the paved and unpaved areas of an airport.
  • Describe the various terms associated with pavements.
  • Describe the methods and products used to repair for runway, taxiway and apron surfaces.
  • Describe the requirements to ensure a safe and efficient clearance of snow and ice from airports.
  • Describe the type of snow-removal plan required for different weather conditions.
  • Describe the use and selection of Airport and Airside Equipment.
