This course expands on the basic supply chain management concepts learnt in APIC 1161 and explores the detailed processes in an end-to-end supply chain system in a manufacturing and distribution environment. Topics include: planning processes in a manufacturing and distribution environment to balance demand and supply, execution processes such as MRP that create inventory, push and pull scheduling techniques to control operations, and strategic positioning methods to support business strategies. This comprehensive training course provides the student with the information and techniques to thoroughly understand the APICS body of knowledge for the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) exam. This course is the only single resource available that is designed specifically to help candidates pass the APICS CPIM exam part 2. The APIC learning system materials provided in this course include printed handouts, knowledge progress checks, practise quizzes, practise exams and case studies. In the first class students will be required to purchase the APIC learning system materials estimated at a cost of $685 CAD. Note that APICS has reconfigured the CPIM program and the original five exams will be replaced with the Part 1 and Part 2 exams. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the topics covered in the APICS CPIM certification exam part 2.
- Use the APICS CPIM online learning portal to comprehend the CPIM exam topics.
- Explain how the Master Planning of Resources concept is used to improve demand management, sales and operations planning, master scheduling, and distribution planning.
- Explain the importance of the Detailed Scheduling and Planning techniques such as MRP, CRP, Lean, TOC, and projects to improve the effectiveness of supply chains.
- Describe how Execution and Control of Operations concepts are used to translate plans into operational activities and explain the application of MRP, TOC and Lean based systems.
- Explain how Strategic Management of Resources concepts are used to optimize the resources and processes of an organization in response to market requirements.

Guidelines for School of Business + Media
Students must successfully complete a course within a maximum of three (3) attempts at the course. Students with two attempts in a single course will be allowed to repeat the course only upon special written permission from the Associate Dean. Students who have not successfully completed a course within three attempts may not be eligible to graduate from their respective program.
Regular attendance in lectures and labs is seen as integral to student success, therefore, attendance in class is monitored. Unexcused absences in excess of 10% of the time prescribed for this course may result in the assignment of a failing grade. Attendance may be taken at any time during class. A student not present for attendance will be marked absent. A student who leaves class for a period of time deemed excessive by the instructor may be considered absent regardless of whether they are present when attendance is taken.
In case of illness or other unavoidable absence, students must communicate with the instructor, or the appropriate Program Head, as soon as possible (preferably in advance) indicating the reason for the absence. Students who are seeking accommodation for a medical absence must have a BCIT-approved medical certificate ). For other absences, students must be prepared to provide appropriate supporting documentation.
A student who has unexcused absences in excess of 10% of the time prescribed for the course by the Withdrawal Deadline is considered to have ‘Vanished’ and will be assigned a grade of ‘V’. In these cases, no further work will be graded.
