SUMMARY:PATIENT PARTNER SPRING RESILIENCE SERIES Beyond Resilience: Let's Talk About Flourishing
DESCRIPTION:About the Facilitator: \n\nDr. Harroop (Roop) Sharda\, RN\, PhD\, is a nurse educator\, researcher\, and postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia. With over two decades of experience across clinical practice\, education\, and applied research\, her work focuses on equity-oriented approaches to learning\, well-being\, and flourishing in health professions education. \nAbout the Session:  \nIn health and education systems\, resilience has long been positioned as the benchmark for coping and success. But what lies beyond resilience? \nThis interactive session invites participants to critically examine the concept of flourishing\, tracing its origins from classical philosophical roots through its evolution within positive psychology\, and into contemporary\, practice-informed understandings. Drawing on her research and scholarship in nursing education\, Roop will explore how flourishing can be understood not as an individual trait or outcome\, but as a dynamic\, relational\, and context-sensitive process shaped by social\, institutional\, and structural conditions. \nParticipants will be invited into a co-constructive dialogue to reflect on their own experiences and perspectives\, particularly as Patient Partners and collaborators in health education and care systems. \nTogether\, we will consider: \n\nHow dominant narratives of resilience may obscure systemic challenges?\nWhat does it mean to flourish within complex\, and often constrained\, environments?\nHow can patient and community voices can reshape how flourishing is defined\, supported\, and sustained?\n\nThis session is designed to foster meaningful dialogue\, challenge assumptions\, and open space for re-imagining well-being and success in more inclusive and context-responsive ways. \nDate: Thurs\, June 11th\, 2026\nTime: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM\nDelivery Format: Online (via MS Teams) \nRegistration Details: \n\n\nRegistration must be completed through the event registration link.\nPlease indicate whether you are a Patient Partner or Faculty/Staff member when registering.\nA registration confirmation email will be sent approx. 2 weeks before the session.\nThere is no cost to register\nIf you do not receive confirmation or have any registration issues\, please email:  leanna_wong@bcit.ca

Each badged course helps nurses deepen their understanding of anatomy\, common surgical procedures\, and the critical role perioperative care plays in achieving optimal patient outcomes. Participants will also learn to develop individualized plans of care and build confidence in both scrub and circulating nurse roles. The badged courses are standalone\, ranging from 0.5 to 3 credits.
