SUMMARY:South Campus Infrastructure Renewal Integrated Design Process – Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Construction for BCIT’s South Campus Infrastructure Renewal Project is well underway\, the culmination of years of planning and design. It combines major updates to underground infrastructure with upgrades to the public realm that enhance landscaping\, accessibility\, and sustainability. \nThe completed project will also prepare the Burnaby Campus for future development by addressing critical infrastructure needs\, replacing utility systems\, and realigning utility corridors\, in a way that integrates with and anticipates future developments such as the daylighting of Guichon Creek. \nThe complex mixture of underground work and landscaping creates design challenges and opportunities. In this Living Labs Lecture the design team will discuss the design process that translated the vision for the project into complex engineering and architectural solutions. \nThe team will explore the role of engagement with project partners in the design process and the use of software tools for collaboration to create a buildable design. \nTopics Include \n\nWhat the integrated design process means\nExploring design solutions through multidisciplinary expertise\nWorking with external project partners and approval processes\nUse of collaboration tools\n\n\nPresenters: \n\nNick Foster\, Principal\, Omb\nJanusz Menezla associate principal: omb\nChris Phillips\, Founding Principal\, PFS Studio\nJoe Cosh\, Director Facilities Improvements\, BCIT\n\nOMB \nThe office of mcfarlane biggar architects + designers (omb) is an award-winning\, full-service design firm based in Vancouver and Victoria. SUMMARY:Construction Management\, Planning and Execution – a South Campus Infrastructure Renewal case study
DESCRIPTION:BCIT’s South Campus Infrastructure Project is well underway. This is a complex initiative that combines replacement of underground infrastructure with landscaping\, over multiple work areas of the south side of campus. \nDelivering such a complex project requires a highly coordinated approach to planning and sequencing. \nThis lecture\, led by the General Contractor for the project PCL\, will explore the process of planning and construction management for the SCIR project. This will start with pre-tender construction planning\, including coordination with BCIT’s internal partners\, and how that transitions into managing construction on site. \nThe team will also look at how they have used tools like CM Builder and Revizto for visual construction sequencing and GIS mapping as an internal communication tool and contractor resource. \nTopics covered include: \n\nConstruction panning and sequencing\nConstruction management\nVisual construction sequencing\nCoordination with project partners\n\n\nPresenters and biographies\n\nAdam Plumley\, Project Manager\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.\nRyan Ferreira\, Project Superintendent\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.\nJoey Ho\, EIT\, Field Coordinator\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.\nRyan Jacobs\, Senior Project Manager\, BCIT Facilities Improvements\n\nAdam Plumley\, Project Manager\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. \nAdam has over 15 years of construction management experience\, along with four years of onsite construction experience. He has worked as a project manager in PCL’s Special Projects division for over nine years\, managing projects from initial design concepts through construction and completion. His experience includes new construction\, renovations\, building upgrades\, replacements\, and renewal projects. Adam has extensive experience delivering work on active post-secondary campuses\, including multiple projects at BCIT. \nRyan Ferreira\, Project Superintendent\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. \nRyan has 19 years of construction experience across a diverse range of projects\, from detailed planning through final completion. His strong field background enables him to manage and supervise complex construction activities while maintaining a focus on safety\, sequencing\, quality\, and coordination. Ryan works to build positive relationships among owners\, designers\, contractors\, trade partners\, and project teams. \nJoey Ho\, EIT\, Field Coordinator\, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. \nJoey is an Engineer-in-Training with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of British Columbia. She has experience supporting aviation\, commercial\, institutional\, healthcare\, and post-secondary construction projects. Her responsibilities include project administration\, document control\, procurement tracking\, change management\, schedule coordination\, drawing submissions\, and communication among clients\, consultants\, trade partners\, and project teams. On the SCIR project\, Joey is also supporting visual construction sequencing using CM Builder and Revizto. \nRyan Jacobs\, Senior Project Manager\, BCIT Facilities Improvements \nRyan is a Senior Project Manager with BCIT Facilities Improvements and represents BCIT’s interests in the planning and delivery of the SCIR project. He supports coordination among BCIT’s internal stakeholders\, consultants\, and construction team and provides the owner’s perspective on project planning\, campus operations\, communication\, and construction impacts. \nCompany information: \nEstablished in 1906\, PCL is a group of independent construction companies that carries out work across Canada\, the United States\, the Caribbean\, and Australia. PCL’s operations span the civil infrastructure\, heavy industrial\, and buildings markets and are supported by a presence in more than 30 major centres. \n\nEvent Accessibility \nIt is important to us that our event and materials are accessible to all participants.
