International Letters of Verification

International students may request international letters of verification from the International Student Centre (ISC) that may be used for a number of purposes including to support certain applications to Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

There are three types of international letters of verification:
  1. International Confirmation of Enrolment
  2. International Confirmation of Graduation
  3. International Confirmation of Future Registration

How to request an international letter of verification

Until further notice, all requests for international letters of verification will only be accepted by email.

To request a letter, please complete the International Letter Request form [PDF], save to your computer and then submit it as an email attachment to international.letters@bcit.ca.

If your letter request is approved, then a non-refundable $20 fee will be charged to your BCIT student account. See Payment Options at BCIT for instructions on how to pay your fees.

International Confirmation of Enrolment Letters

International Confirmation of Enrolment Letters are designed to provide IRCC with the information that they will require in order to process various applications including study permit extensions and co-op work permits. The information on these letters includes:
  • Your program of study
  • Your current academic status (full-time or part-time)
  • The start and anticipated end date of your current program

Eligibility requirements
  1. Be a current international student admitted or declared in a program at BCIT and enrolled in courses for the current term
  2. Have met BCIT’s study permit requirement
  3. Have submitted proof of enrolling in BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)
  4. Not have any outstanding fees – see Payment Options at BCIT for instructions on how to pay your fees
  5. Have remained enrolled and made reasonable and timely progress towards completing your program
Processing time: up to 5 business days

International Confirmation of Graduation Letters

International Confirmation of Graduation Letters are designed to support post-graduation work permit (PGWP) applications, and include the following information:
  • Your graduated program(s)
  • Your program start and completion date
  • Program length determined by credential and credit value

Eligibility requirements
  1. Be an international student who has successfully completed all of the components related to a program and have been awarded a credential
  2. Students completing Business Fundamentals, Bachelor of Business Administration, a Part-Time Studies program, or modified Full-Time program must also submit an Application for BCIT Credential Form (students completing Full-Time programs on schedule with their cohort do not need to submit this form)
Processing time: up to 5 business days once your graduation has been confirmed and your credential has been awarded by BCIT Student Records.

Once all of your marks have been posted on myBCIT, your estimated processing time for your graduation to be confirmed are as follows:
  • Full-Time programs on schedule with their cohort: 4 weeks
  • Part-Time Studies or modified Full-Time program: 6-8 weeks once you have submitted an Application for BCIT Credential Form to Student Records

International Confirmation of Future Registration Letters

International Confirmation of Future Registration Letters are available for students who have registered for courses and declared a program but have not yet started their program. In this case, the International Confirmation of Future Registration Letter may be used to support a study permit application.

Eligibility requirements
  1. Be an international student admitted or declared in a Part-Time Studies program that accepts international students
  2. Be registered only in courses from your program matrix
  3. Not have any outstanding fees – see Payment Options at BCIT for instructions on how to pay your fees
  4. Provide proof of having a valid status in Canada – excluding visitor status and restoration of status
  5. Must have submitted proof of enrolling in BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)
  6. Ensure that you can satisfy BCIT’s English Requirements
  7. Provide transcripts from all previous studies in Canada that demonstrate you have remained enrolled and made reasonable and timely progress towards completing your studies (if applicable)
  8. Letter request must be received at least 8 weeks before the first day of classes
Processing time: up to 5 business days

Letters of Verification from BCIT Student Records

Through the myBCIT online portal any student can access free letters of verification provided by Student Records, but please be aware that these letters are not suitable for IRCC applications. However, they may be used for other purposes such as demonstrating that you are enrolled in courses in order to qualify for promotions that are only available to students such as no-fee student bank accounts, student phone plans, student ski passes, etc.
