Graphic Communications Technology Program

Generous partners from across the commercial printing industry have partnered with BCIT to launch the Graphic Communications Technology program, donating more than $2 million in cash and equipment to help fund a state-of-the-art training and production facility.

The printing industry is the fourth largest manufacturing employer in Canada -- more than 6,000 British Columbians are employed in commercial printing. The new Graphic Communications Technology program is the only one of its kind west of Ontario.

Students have access to the latest technology used in all aspects of the printing and publishing industry, including pre-press, press, bindery, finishing, management, and customer service. Their hands-on practical training also includes work placements in the field.

Industry partners donated cash, specialized equipment, and expertise to launch the program, and awarded the program’s first class of students special grants of $1,200 each.

Also, a joint British Columbia and Imaging Association (BCPIA) and BCIT advisory committee produced a curriculum that equips graduates to find and fill challenging jobs in all aspects of the commercial printing industry.
