Student Awards

The generous donors behind BCIT's awards are the key to the success of BCIT and its students. The cost of education today is making it harder than ever for students to balance their studies and pay bills thus creating a higher demand for financial assistance. These awards can often make the difference in a student being able to complete their studies.

From the beginning, the generous support of our donors has directly advanced student educational opportunities by contributing over $20 million to endowed funds, and up to $1 million each year for annual awards.

Establishing a Student Award at BCIT

Nearly one-third of all students apply for financial aid during their studies. This money can often make the difference in a student being able to complete their education. Donors who support student awards are investing in student's success during their time at BCIT. Read below to find out more about the types of awards that can be established.

Ways to establish an award

Endowed Awards

Endowments create a lasting legacy at BCIT by providing a permanent source of funding for scholarship, bursaries or awards. Endowments can be created to support students in specific programs or BCIT can direct the funds to program areas of greatest need. Once established, contributions can be made to the endowment from industry partners, family, or friends.

An Endowment is a permanent fund supporting awards. The Endowment must generate the minimum award amount - currently $500 ($1000 for Entrance Awards). Please contact awards@bcit.ca for more information.

Annual Awards

Annual gifts of $500 ($1000 for Entrance Awards) or more support student awards, scholarships or bursaries. Annual contributions may be designated to support students in specific programs or BCIT can direct the funds to program areas of greatest need.

Annual/Endowed awards combination

Donors may choose to fund an award on an annual basis, while establishing your endowed fund through additional gifts pledged over a number of years. Over time, the goal is reached, and the annual award is fully supported by endowment income.
