Valerie Gregory,

work experience

Valerie has always been an avid reader and writer. She spent her childhood and teenage years reading, and most of her career writing when she wasn't reading. Before teaching at BCIT's School of Business for the past 20 years, she worked as a news and entertainment journalist in print, online and broadcast mediums. Valerie has also toiled as an editor, communications specialist, a business writer and a career coach. She currently teaches writing for new media and career preparation in three faculties at BCIT: New Media Design & Web Development, 3D Arts, Modelling and Animation, and Communications Design Essentials. Valerie has also taught journalism at Kwantlen University and business writing at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She continues to work as a freelance journalist and business writer for magazines such as Communication Arts and companies like Schema, a Seattle-based data visualization company.


Valerie has an MA in Liberal Studies (Simon Fraser University), a BFA (Hons, Concordia University), and a Provincial Instructor Diploma (VCC). She has a coaching certificate (Co-Active Coaching) and has participated in (and led) many workshops and seminars in education, media training, entertainment writing and criticism, communications, computer-assisted research, blogging, and online content development.
