Carol Edwards brings over 15 years of financial and computer experience to BCIT.

Her work in the financial industry involved extensive analysis of complex data, designing iterative forecasting models in spreadsheets, selecting securities for clients and portfolio management.

She has taught a variety of courses through BCIT, including Finance 1 and Finance 2, Advanced Finance through the Accounting Degree Program, Working Capital Management, Enterprise Finance, Finance Reports, Securities Analysis I and II, and financial modeling in Excel.

Security Analysis prepares BCIT students to write the Canadian Securities Course exams and the Conduct and Practices Handbook exam. Ms. Edwards' students have consistently had a greater than 75% pass rate for these exams.

From June 2004 until May 2005, Ms. Edwards was seconded from BCIT to Raymond James Canada for a one year sabbatical. She worked as an Investment Advisor, helping another Investment Advisor to set-up his client base under Raymond James’ Independent Financial Contractor (IFC) model.

Ms. Edwards has also taught computers to individuals in many fields of work. She has designed, organized and taught courses in Windows and MicroSoft Office. As well, she has written training manuals for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

In 2002, she created the PowerPoint presentations to accompany each of the 26 chapters of a new Canadian edition of the Brealey, Myers, Marcus Fundamentals of Corporate Finance text, published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson. She designed these presentations to provide students and instructors with a dynamic and easily understandable supplement to the text.

In 2004, she published an online help-manual for the Canadian Securities Course through Oliver Publishing in Toronto. This online manual provides CSI writers with a database of over 2000 multiple choice questions based on the CSI exam.

Ms. Edwards has been nominated multiple times by her students in the finance option for the BCIT School of Business' Excellence in Teaching Award and won it in the summer of 2002.
