Prior to joining BCIT in 1988, Richard completed his Certificate of Qualifications and Interprovincial Red Seal as an Automotive Service Technician.  He has completed the Provincial Instructor's Diploma, a Bachelor of Arts (Adult Education) from UFV, and a Master of Education from SFU.  Richard has been an active member of BCIT's community and has participated with many committees and working groups including Education Council (EdCo) since 2003.  He is currently Manager, Academic Planning & Quality Assurance, working in the Office of the VP Academic .

Richard and Deborah retired from their Fraser Valley farm in 2011, where they raised Hereford and Black Angus beef calves.  They now live in the Murrayville area of Langley.  In their non-working hours, they love to travel and spend time with their seven (7) children, and twelve (12) grandchildren.
