Waste ManagementWaste Management takes a sustainable approach to managing solid waste produced by the BCIT community. Facilities Services has a comprehensive waste management program which emphasizes recycling and composting.
Our program diverts close to 70% of campus waste away from the landfill by:
- recycling office supplies;
- recycling office equipment;
- recycling consumer products;
- recycling industrial waste; and
- composting organic materials.
Recycling and waste
Recycling is a key component of effective waste management. Our recycling team continues to expand operations, demonstrate best practices and exceed aspirational waste diversion targets for the region.
BCIT has one of Western Canada's oldest, and biggest, vermi-composting programs. The composting program "harvests" organic materials from the campus waste stream which ultimately reduces the amount of greenhouse gases produced in landfills.
Bins on campus
To support our comprehensive waste management program, we have a variety of bins located throughout BCIT campuses. Learn about what can be deposited where.
