Microcredentials

A course badge (represented by the symbol of an eagle) is a digital document that verifies the successful completion of a short course or workshop that has provided the learner with a demonstrated skill or specific knowledge.

Digital badges will be issued upon successful completion of each course, after final grades have been posted to the student’s myBCIT student history, typically two to four weeks after the course end date.

Each digital badge contains embedded data regarding where and when it was earned, and the competencies that were assessed. Badges can be linked to an online resume, website, or social media platform.

A program microcredential (represented by the symbol of a torch) is a digital credential that confirms the successful completion of a series of courses or workshops that together represent a set of related skills, competencies, or specific knowledge that has been successfully demonstrated.

A digital microcredential which contains embedded data regarding where and when the required courses were completed and the skill sets or knowledge that have been recognized, will be issued after the successful completion of the courses that make up a microcredential program. Microcredentials can be linked to an online resume, website, or social media platform.

Digital course badges are awarded to students once the final grades for a badged course has been issued to their myBCIT account. Approval of final grades may take around 2-4 weeks to process after course completion.

The link to obtain each course badge and/or program microcredential will be sent to your student email at my.bcit.ca from Canvas Credentials. Instructions will be provided to set up an account via your myBCIT student platform under My Email, and download your digital badge or microcredential.

To receive your program microcredential, please ensure final grades for all the microcredential program courses have been posted to your myBCIT account. Once confirmed, email microcredentials@bcit.ca with your full name, student number, and the name of your microcredential program. The digital credential will be issued within 2-4 weeks of receiving your email.

Your myBCIT email address connects your Canvas Credentials account to your digital badges, so if you have already created an account using a different email address, add your myBCIT email by accessing your account settings.

Instructions on how to save and share your badge(s) and microcredentials will be provided by Canvas Credentials. Once downloaded, you will be able to post them on social media platforms, your website, resume, and business cards.

BCIT has partnered with Canvas Credentials, an industry-leading platform for digital credentials. This secure platform allows you to present your achievements to current and potential employers in a modern, high-tech format.

Some microcredentials do ladder into other BCIT curricula and some badged courses are included in Flexible Learning programs. Contact the specific department to discuss opportunities to further your education.
