New products, a desire for buildings with reduced environmental impacts, and new Building Code requirements have led to an increase in the use of mass timber as a building construction material. This free webinar will briefly review the different types of mass timber that are used in BC, and fire protection issues that are common to mass timber in any building, such as fire protection of steel connections and firestopping of penetrations through mass timber, and will mainly focus on the new (December 2019) revisions to the BC Building Code which allow encapsulated mass timber construction for buildings of up to 12 storeys.
