Full-time Studies

Full-time programs offered by the School of Construction and the Environment are listed on our browse programs page. We offer full-time programs that range from 3 month certificates through 4 year degrees. When accepted into a full-time program, you are automatically registered into all the courses you need for program completion. You will be assigned to a set — that is, a group of 16-24 students who take all their classes together for an entire semester or a whole year.

Expect to be with your set for 30 hours a week — 5 to 8 hours a day, five days a week, starting as early as 7 a.m. but usually ending before 5 p.m. At least half (and often a lot more) of your assigned hours will be spent in the classroom. The rest of your time will be used for hands-on training in a lab, shop or real-world situation, practising the skills you'll need when you enter the workforce. You’ll work in groups of two to 10 on practical projects which will help you develop teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills. Student projects are often sponsored by companies in business and industry.

You should also expect a pretty rigorous workload from most full-time programs; we didn't get our reputation as Canada's Premier Polytechnic by having low expectations or standards. If you're not sure whether you want to tackle the load of a full-time program, you might want to have a look at some of the part-time or distance education courses we offer.
