Term: Spring 2014
BCIT Program: Business Operations Management
Roy Chan and Kyle Morrison are graduating students from the Business Operations Management program at BCIT that worked on a process improvement project at World Computer Exchange (WCE). WCE is a non-profit organization that takes in old computers and laptops and re-purposes the computers into educational tools for people in developing countries. Processes at the WCE BCIT include taking in donations of computers, data wiping the computers, and installing software onto the computers and shipping them out to the organization headquarters.

Since WCE BCIT is a project startup, Roy and Kyle investigated the needs of the organization for the warehousing space, tools and processes for WCE Operations.

Through interviews, process flow charts, Ishikawa diagrams, time studies, and value added analysis the symptoms discovered at the organization include an out of date standard operating procedure for refurbishment, no warehouse layouts, no standardization of material placement, and unknown work cell layout. Based on the symptoms, the following documentations have been created:
These documentations helped the organization become more standardized and become more consistent in their operations.
