Project Details

Project Client: BCIT Business Operations Management
Project Description: Event Analysis and Event Planning
Students: Catherine Bradd and Susie Ramstad
Term: Fall 2012
BCIT Program: Business Operations Management
The Business Operations Management (BOM) program within the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) contracted two 2nd year BOM students, Catherine Bradd and Susie Ramstad (the Planners), to plan the improved implementation of the 3rd annual BCIT BOM Showcase Event.

The purpose of this project was to analyze past Showcase Events and gather new data to determine the areas within Showcase planning and implementation that required improvement or enhancement. Through surveys, interviews, and the use of various analysis tools, the Planners determined that the root causes of last year’s Showcase complications were the limited location and provided services, in addition to insufficient communication and time management through the Implementation Phase.

To improve the 2013 Showcase implementation, the Planners have determined that the 2013 BCIT BOM Showcase Event will be held:
In addition to these decisions, the Planners feel confident that they have prepared and supplied an improved Showcase implementation plan that will increase student volunteer involvement and mitigate the symptoms of previous Showcase events through the adherence of the implementation plan, the arrangement of the organizational structure, and the use of the provided tools and methods.

The benefits of the implementation plan include the improved direction, organization, and time management of the implementation phase from past years, as well as increased industry attendance at the event and subsequent job offers for BOM students. The plan also promotes better documentation and record keeping, which will be beneficial for future implementations.

The implementation plan has since been approved as the proposed solution for the 2013 Showcase Event and will proceeding as of January 2, 2013.
