Student project support
At BCIT Students can gain an enhanced learning experience by working on multidisciplinary industry sponsored projects as well as their own entrepreneurial projects with support from MAKE+ researchers. MAKE+ works with students to mentor them through the design process and we work in the following areas:
- Project Planning
- Definition of the problem
- Definition of requirements
- Designing – conceptual and detailed design
- Testing – both in the lab and in the field
We can assign a MAKE+ staff member to be their mentor. A typical case would see the MAKE+ staff member starting the process so we could get an understanding of the project and the students. They will ask that the students give some thought to developing a definition of the problem and a set of design requirements which are not the designs themselves, then to get back in touch with MAKE+ so we can continue to support the next phase of the student project. We may assign a different project leader to supervise them now that we have a better understanding of the project.
It is possible for the students to be able to utilize our labs to construct their prototypes however this would require full supervision of the students in our labs from a safety perspective.
