BCIT 2017 Distinguished Awards Government Greetings

A message from Premier John Horgan

As Premier of the Province of British Columbia, I am pleased to welcome everyone to the 15th Annual BCIT Distinguished Awards.

The purpose of this ceremony is to recognize the significant contributions the recipients have made both at home and abroad. With their world class training from BCIT, these individuals have become leaders in various fields including politics, tourism, and health sciences.

I would also like to acknowledge David Tuccaro and Sue Paish - two inspiring people who are each receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Technology. Through a combination of their life and business experiences, these honourees have broken new ground in their respective fields. I sincerely congratulate them on this amazing feat and look forward to seeing the new and unchartered places they will take their industries.

I would like to thank the staff and organizers of tonight's award ceremony for their hard work. Congratulations, again, to the recipients and have an wonderful evening!

A message from The Honorable Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training

I would like to give a warm welcome to everyone attending the 15th Annual BCIT Distinguished Awards, which are taking place on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

These awards acknowledge exemplary students, alumni and honorary doctorates who have demonstrated ingenuity and leadership in their fields; from community builders to technology researchers; from mental health and wellness professionals to business leaders.

The award recipients here tonight inspire our next generation. They are living proof that you can succeed in life with a dream, passion and a lot of hard work.
We are fortunate to have institutions like BCIT that provide our province with skilled, educated and well-trained professionals. With world-renowned educators and a diverse range of education and training programs, BCIT leads their graduates to a bright future.

I want to express my heartfelt congratulations to the award recipients this evening. Thank you for your continued contribution to your fields, our province and beyond.
