BCIT is committed to providing a future-proof applied education through high-quality programs, instruction, and student support. We care for our campus infrastructure and technology to ensure that we can provide our graduates with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers. To maintain this commitment, the following tuition and fee changes have been approved for the 2023-2024 academic year:
- 2% increase to tuition and mandatory fees
- New Student Technology fee
- Changes to full-time international tuition
Consultation about these changes took place during the Fall and Winter terms with the BCIT Student Association Council.
2% increase to base tuition and mandatory fees
What’s changing
Each year, BC public post-secondary institutions may raise tuition and mandatory fees at the rate identified by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. The annual rate increases fall under the Tuition Limit Policy, and have historically been 2%. Aligned with the rate identified in the Tuition Limit Policy, BCIT will increase base tuition and mandatory fees by 2% for all courses and programs.
Details
A 2% increase to base tuition and mandatory fees will apply to both domestic and international students for the 2023-2024 academic year. All courses and programs beginning on or after August 1, 2023, will be subject to the 2023-2024 rates.
Full-time students
The 2023-2024 tuition and fee rates will be published in mid-late April and will take effect on August 1, 2023. If you are making a tuition payment for a term that begins on or after August 1, 2023, you will be expected to pay the updated 2023-24 tuition and fee rates. If you have already paid your Fall 2023 tuition using the old rates, you will be required to pay the difference within 10 business days from the start of your program.
Flexible Learning (formerly Part-time Studies) and microcredential students
When the Fall 2023 term opens for registration in late May, course tuition and fees will be displayed and assessed at the new 2023-2024 rates.
New Student Technology fee
What’s changing
BCIT is introducing a Student Technology fee to help offset costs related to the growing suite of technology services and supports relied upon by students.
Details
Student Technology fee definition: Supports technology embedded in the student experience such as applications and software used for learning and teaching, including remote access to those applications and software, and remote access to well-being services and supports.
Changes to full-time international tuition
What’s changing
Market rate increases to academic terms
International tuition is higher by a fixed proportion (a “differential”) for all courses and programs—both full- and part-time—because it recovers the full costs of instruction, both direct and indirect. As costs of instruction continue to rise, BCIT has carefully reviewed the differential rates that are expected to cover those costs. International differential increases will take effect in the Fall 2023 term and will apply to all full-time technology and trades and technical studies programs starting on or after August 1, 2023.
There are no changes to the Flexible Learning or microcredential differentials at this time.
Differential added to Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) terms
Feedback from program areas and teams supporting Work-Integrated Learning opportunities has highlighted the level of support required by international students while seeking and completing job placements. To recover the costs associated with this support, a differential rate will be added to Work-Integrated Learning terms.

Learn more about full-time international differential changes
In an effort to reduce the impact to returning international students who will be continuing their studies in 2023-2024 to complete a full-time program that began prior to August 1, 2023, rates of increase may differ for new and returning students.
