I am still in high school. Can I write the Trades Pre-entry Test to qualify for a program?

Yes. We often recommend that high school students write the Pre-entry Test as a means of meeting program entry requirements when transcripts are unavailable.

What programs or courses can I use the Trades Pre-entry Test results for?

With a few exceptions, the Pre-entry Test is acceptable for all BCIT Trades and Apprenticeship courses. Consult the BCIT course catalogue for more information on specific program entrance requirements.

What should I do if I can't attend the test session I registered for?

The test fee is non-refundable. However, if you have paid and are unable to write a test, you may transfer the test fee to a test date no later than two weeks into the new term. A transfer fee may apply. Contact Student Information and Enrolment Services for assistance.

I lost my receipt, can I get another one?

Yes, just log into the secure student information system or myBCIT to print out another receipt or save a copy of the electronic receipt to your phone or tablet.

After you write test

When will my test results be available?

If you write at BCIT Burnaby, your test results will be provided to you once you complete the test(s). If you write at another location, your test results are available on your myBCIT within seven business days after we receive your test(s).

What mark do I need to achieve in order to pass?

The pass mark of any test varies by program. It is determined by the difficulty and volume of that subject required in your trade program.

What is the validity period for the test results?

The validity period for our test results varies for each program. Please contact Program Advising or Admissions for more information.

Can I take the test again? When?

One re-write may be attempted in any term. If you do not pass the re-write, you must wait a minimum of three months to re-write or show proof of completion of an appropriate upgrade course. To re-write a test, you must bring the BCIT Pretest Report from your previous attempt.

Note: Applicants to the Fixed-Wing or Rotary-Wing option of the Airline and Flight Operations Commercial Pilot Program: If you do not pass the re-write, you may not attempt to re-write the test until the next application year.

What happens if I don't pass? Do I have to re-write all the tests? Do I have to pay again?

We will recommend specific upgrade solutions to you. You need to re-register, pay and re-write the Pre-entry Test(s) you did not pass. You must bring the BCIT Pretest Report from your previous attempt for the re-write
