Presidents' Welcome

Welcome to the British Columbia Institute of Technology. BCIT holds a unique place in the educational landscape both here in British Columbia, and in Canada, and I invite you to explore the many hands-on educational opportunities within our six schools, and learn more about our applied research activities. Together, our research and training help drive the economy forward.
BCIT students have the option to pursue a variety of Master and Bachelor degrees, certificates and diplomas; as graduates, the world is wide open to them, as they take their applied skills directly to the workforce. BCIT grads will never be heard saying, “But it’s my first day!” We work with industry to ensure that our training remains on the cutting edge of current practices, and engage our students in the classroom, in the lab, and in the field, building a broad and relevant spectrum of skills. When they walk through the door on day one, they are ready to roll up their sleeves and dive right into the job.
BCIT prides itself on its excellent teaching, student services, and ties to industry. We are here to support you throughout your time at BCIT, and I wish you the very best for success in your education, and in your future career.
Sincerely,
Don Wright
President

On behalf of the Student Association, I would like to welcome all new and returning students to BCIT. My name is Nicola Gardner and I am proud to be your BCIT Student Association (BCITSA) President for the 2011/2012 school year.
Over the past two years I have had the opportunity to take advantage of all that the BCITSA and BCIT have to offer and I encourage you to do the same. Through clubs, organizations, intramural sports, and various services, the
BCITSA and BCIT offer students much more than just an education.
The BCITSA is a student-led organization aimed at improving the lives of all BCIT students. We have an “open door” policy and encourage students to ask questions, share ideas, and get involved. Whether it is as a set representative, student councillor, through joining a club, participating in our events, or even joining the conversation on Twitter and Facebook, the BCITSA offers a variety of ways to get involved.
You will find your time at BCIT challenging but also very rewarding. At times you may be overwhelmed by the workload but it is important to maintain a healthy balance between work and life. The BCITSA offers a variety of services to help you develop and maintain this balance and I encourage you to utilize them.
I believe that BCIT is the best place to learn and grow both personally and professionally. BCIT’s learning style provides a unique opportunity to make great friendships and lasting memories. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at BCIT and I strongly encourage you to embrace and take advantage of all that BCIT and the BCITSA have to offer. I look forward to meeting you this year.
Sincerely,
Nicola Gardner
BCITSA President
