Trades Access Department Programs and Services
The Trades Access Department offers programs and services to support students who are enrolled in, or planning to enter Trades and/or Technical Studies training at BCIT.
Trades Discovery programs offer students an opportunity to sample various trades and technical training and to build the necessary skills for success in their chosen career path. Over a period of 480 hours or 16 weeks, this program covers career preparation, mathematics, blueprint reading, and extensive "hands on" practical training in various workshops at BCIT. By the end of the Trades Discovery programs most students will have chosen a career path.

Trades Pre-entry Test
The BCIT Trades Access Department administers Trades Pre-entry tests for applicants to Trades and Apprenticeship programs as well as some Technical programs.The Trades Pre-entry tests are designed to assess your skill and ability levels in English, Mathematics, Physics and Mechanical Reasoning.

Trades Academic Upgrading & Remediation
Trades math courses review the mathematics required in the trades, apprenticeship, and technical training available at BCIT. Students are able to select the courses that meet their specific needs.
- ACES 0011 - Basic Trades Math
- ACES 0012 - Intermediate Trades Math
- ACES 0013 - Craft Trades Math
- ACES 0014 - Technical Trades Math
Tools of the Trades updates study skills and gives students a head start on Trades Training. This course provides the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in trades and apprenticeship training.

BCIT Trades and Technical Studies students can access a trades instructor for free tutorial assistance in math, science, study skills and blueprint reading. Practical approaches to problem solving are used to assist students with the application of theoretical concepts to job-related tasks. Tutorial sessions are on a drop-in basis, and students are asked to bring their course materials with them.
