Access Courses
The Trades Learning Centre offers a variety of options to prepare for mathematics encountered in the pre-test, trades training, and apprenticeship programs offered at BCIT and elsewhere.
Instructors notes are available by internet or correspondence.
Registration is continuous and courses may be completed in 3 months or less. A personal tutor will be assigned and free assistance is available at BCIT Burnaby campus.
- ACES 0011 - Basic Trades Math ($0, Tuition Free)
Covers whole numbers, fractions, decimal fraction, measurement, and related trades problems.
- ACES 0012 - Intermediate Trades Math ($0, Tuition Free)
Covers percent, ratio/proportion, precision measurement, roots and powers, signed numbers, order of operations, and related trades problems.
- ACES 0013 - Craft Trades Math ($0, Tuition Free)
Covers algebra, formulas, 2 dimensional(plane), and 3 dimensional(solid) geometry and related trades problems. Ideal for the metal, wood, and mechanical trades learner.
- ACES 0014 - Technical Trades Math ($0, Tuition Free)
Covers scientific and engineering notation, precision measurement; angles; triangles, and trigonometry; systems of equations, and related trades problems. Ideal for the electrical, electronics, power engineering, and plumbing/piping, millwright, and machinist trades learner.
- ACES 0020 - Technical Literacy: Tools of the Trades ($120)
Updates study skills and gives a head start on trades training. Provides the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in trades and apprenticeship training.
