The BCIC New Ventures BC Competition helps turn ideas into profitable businesses with over $300,000 in start-up capital and prizes. The Peter Thomson Centre for Venture Development and Commmercialization Assistance Program have partnered to sponsor this event to help spur innovation in new BC companies. (note: Application deadline is April 18, 2011)
Advancing Ideas Towards Commercial Success
The CAP team offers support services to entrepreneurs and small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) and helps commercialize new services, products and processes. Companies that benefit from the program are beyond the proof of concept stage and are developing, testing, validating or applying for IP on a pre-commercial product.
Qualified companies are encouraged to submit a Business Assistance Request to register and access:
- Technical Assistance – By connecting to BCIT Expertise, Facilities & External Resources
- Training & Events – Attend boot camps, specialized IP Strategy seminars, Testing & Validation seminars
- BCIT’s Commercialization Fund – Funding available to help BC businesses validate their new products before bringing it to the market.
Entrepreneurial Innovation
The School of Business and Peter Thomson Centre for Venture Development run programs and courses that can help you develop a business concept into a successful venture.
Accelerated Venture Development Program - non credit course consisting of 8 weeks of classroom (Immersion Phase) 1 week of business plan development and 21 months of business support (Launch Phase), where participants learn to assess opportunities for their business concept, and create a business plan to put their ideas into action.
Starting your Own Business - covers entrepreneurial characteristics, developing a marketing strategy, conducting market research, operating your business, financial projections, risk reduction, business plan development and much more.
Marketing - Entrepreneurship Option 2 year diploma- helps you create a toolbox of business skills that can be applied in starting your own business, building a career in a growing company, or playing a meaningful role in a small local or global business. This diploma is a pathway to our Bachelor of Business Administration degree program.
Commercialization Boot Camps at BCIT
BCIT frequently runs a Commercialization Boot Camp with speakers on topics such as: the commercialization process, intellectual property, social media, and government funding sources.
