Program Details

Will the Venture Program provide financing for my business?

The Venture Program does not provide financing for entrepreneurs. However, it can help you contact organizations that finance small businesses. Also, you will leave the program with a fully developed business plan that will merit greater consideration from lending organizations.

What is the success rate?

A recent study that followed the progress of 138 out of 176 Venture Program graduates produced some impressive statistics:

  • 68% are successfully established in their businesses
  • 18% expect to be established within the next 2 years

These statistics are substantially higher than the national average for successful business ventures, which indicates that only 40% of new ventures are still operational 18 months after start up.

What are my chances of success if I don't take the Venture Program?

A Dunn and Bradstreet study showed that 60% of small businesses in Canada fail within the first 18 months, and that losses from failed businesses are estimated at $350,000 per business. The Venture Program provides training that can drastically improve an entrepreneur's chance for success by helping the entrepreneur think through the start up process before investing start up funds.

How long has the Venture Program been around?

The first Venture Program class began in 1986.

What are the benefits of the Venture Program?

The Venture Program will provide you with the skills to start your business successfully.

During the Venture Program you will:

  • Develop a complete, professional-level business plan
  • Acquire practical business and entrepreneurial skills
  • Forecast financial situations using computer modeling tools
  • Gain access to relevant business networks
  • Become members of the BCIT and Venture Alumni (upon successful completion)
