Part-time Associate Certificate 6975acert

Overview

Note: The program is currently undergoing industry review and redevelopment and will not be offered until further notice.
The .NET program, offered at BCIT's High-Tech Professional Programs Department, is a part-time, seven month program and comprises 3 1/2 months of course work and a 3 1/2 month applied project.

Today, object oriented programming ("OO") is being used more and more in industry when developing software applications. The OO fundamentals are therefore crucial in being able to design and develop effective software applications.

There are many programmers in industry who have been developing applications using the structured programming framework. There are also programmers who have had exposure to object oriented programming; however, they want to upgrade their skills with the latest object oriented concepts and applications. The .NET program is being offered to assist these people in bridging their knowledge gap and enhancing their knowledge of OO programming.

A student who successfully completes the .NET program will be able to:

  • design and develop robust object oriented client applications using.Net Windows Forms;
  • design and construct web applications using ASP.NET;
  • use the .Net security features;
  • manipulate data in a database using ADO.NET;
  • create applications that are able to interoperate with pre-existing code running outside of the .Net framework;
  • describe the deployment issues to be managed;
  • create Web services;
  • prepare documents required for a software development project.

A fundamental part of the program is applied IT projects. These will be used to reinforce the knowledge and skill set acquired during the program. These projects will give the individuals the opportunity to devise applications using the .NET framework and implement them with the assistance of cohorts and instructor/s as guides and mentors.
